The Bronze Age, in Tents
Autumn-Winter Collections, New York Fashion Week Metallic Sparkle, Bold Beauty and Bohemian Attitude
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HUNTINGTON VILLAGE, NY – February 22, 2010– Molten metals, sparkling shimmer and auburn hues reined the runways at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week in New York City, where designers showed off their autumn-winter collections.
The event itself was a milestone, as this was the last time Fashion Week will grace Bryant Park before it moves to the Lincoln Center area. While bidding a fond farewell to the neighborhood and the iconic tents which became a legendary symbol of Fashion Week, everyone embraced the new era with a warm welcome, looking ahead to new traditions, watching an exciting new legacy unfold.

Smelting a New Future, in Metal Metals were a clear focus in many collections. Custo Barcelona’s “Hairy Metal” show featured cold, sparkling metals contrasting with the warmth of fake fur. Colors of bronze, steel, gold, black and rust were key. Triple-inking patterns, leggings pulled together a bohemian vibe that boasted lots of texture, layered pieces, pops of color throughout.
Fur was in full force in many collections, including Carolina Herrera’s. Her work incorporated bold red accents, striking a fresh elegance along a backdrop of cooler silvers and other metallic shades which bloomed throughout her classic feminine designs.

Romantic Flair Badgley Mischka’s collection had a distinctly romantic flair, with velvety reds and dresses textured with flowers, lush fabrics and glittery sparkle. Blacks were layered on golds, supple beige sweaters flowed over silvery leggings that shone.
Caroline Seikaly reflected this romantic, textured trend, with a sensual collection full of silk tulle, lace and satin accents.

Short, Flirty Hems At Nanette Lepore, shorter hemlines exuded a fun attitude with relaxed shapes cinched together with belts loosely pulled in a playful, jaunty way. Tartan prints, textured and vibrant colors played off of softer waves in hairstyles with a red pouty lip.

Knits: A Key Wardrobe Item Important to the fall wardrobe will be knits, as seen in the Yeohlee show. Capes, cowl necked hooded scarves and warm textured jackets mixed with mineralized browns and earth-toned fabrics.

Beauty Palette: Minerals, Metals and Reds, Oh My!
“Inspired by strength, the potential of new forms, think of red hot, glowing iron – that’s the color at the heart of beauty, of attitude, for fall,” said Adriana Vater, creative director of Spa Adriana, the award-winning Aveda lifestyle salon and spa in Huntington Village. Adriana was on-site gathering intel on new trends for fall.
“Expect to see lots of reds, auburns, coppers for hair and makeup,” continued Vater. “Makeup is a deeper, richer color, great teal greens for eyes, which are overlined in dramatic black. Lashes are important, with either an all-over long lash or just in the corner of the eye. Lips compliment with sheer pastels. Rusts, organic mineral colors are key for lips -- gone are the heavy red lips of last autumn.”
Hair, with its warmer tones, falls in soft broken waves reminiscent of the 1940s and 1950s. This relaxed, feminine view was evident at the Tibi show, which featured playful, loose, flowing curly looks. Heavy bangs still play a role for fall. Look for shorter cuts, very clean and tailored bobs.
Plan your fall look today at Spa Adriana, where designs straight from the runway can be had now.
