The fashion glitterati turned their eyes toward sunnier days at the Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week in New York City recently, featuring spring and summer 2010 collections from the brightest designers in the industry. Spa Adriana was on-the-scene as well, attending shows and gathering intel on all the latest trends.
At Custo Barcelona, named “Air Show,” the collection was all about movement, with light fabrics that shone with a vibrant, sexy texture. Playful, unexpected use of bold graphic and bright colors from blues to purples to yellows created a kaleidoscope of hues.
“Spring and Summer 2010 beauty is all about a simple, clean freshness,” said Adriana Vater, creative director and co-founder of Spa Adriana. “At Custo Barcelona hair was free and flowing, relaxed – not overdone at all. Subtle highlights from the mid shaft add a sunkissed look while keeping maintenance to a minimum. This was the theme for hair throughout Fashion Week with looks that were relatively subdued. Many collections showcased pulled-back locks in casual, slightly messy, low ponytails and knots.”
She continued, “Dressing hair with accessories from a simple wrap scarf to ribbon wound through a ponytail makes for a face-framing accent to compliment any outfit.”
Makeup was kept minimal on the eyes and cheeks, but offered a brighter lip with flower-like hues. “Together hair and makeup created this ‘just out of bed but looking fabulous’ vibe,” added Vater.
Gottex featured sexy, exotic swimwear. Full of energy, a retro feel with innovative construction using bandeau tops lent the collection a ‘40s Hollywood glamour. Rebecca Taylor’s flower prints – even on accessories -- offered flirty, feminine pieces with ruffles and other gorgeous elements. Badgley Mischka’s elegant gowns were feminine and very chic with bright reds and sophisticated designs in black. Jewelry was also key in the Badgley Mischka collection.
Spa Adriana co-founder John Vater also covered many of the runway shows for local media, while wearing his photojournalist hat.
