Long Island’s Spa Adriana Attends Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week: Spring/Summer 2010 Collections

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 20, 2010 – Long Island’s Spa Adriana, the Aveda lifestyle salon and spa in Huntington, was on-hand at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week in New York City where designers showed off their spring/summer collections.

Spa Adriana co-founders Adriana and John Vater were at the shows covering new fashion and beauty trends, with Adriana in the front-of-the-house in her capacity as freelance beauty columnist for several New York-based news outlets. She also uses this opportunity to do reconnaissance for Spa Adriana, checking out the newest trends in fashion and beauty and bringing that intel to clients. John was at the shows as a freelance fashion and beauty photojournalist.

Hot Looks for Spring/Summer

Carolina Herrera – Golden-pink orange colors reigned the runway, including in the Caroline Herrera collection which showcased innovative hair designs that complimented the fashions: flat ribbons made from hair then applied as clip-ons became part of the architectural look of the fashion.

Tony Francesc – Eyes took flight shaded in a bright canary yellow in the corners, swooping out to white-metallic silver and then a darker flourish on the outside. “Glossy nude lips were a perfect compliment to this striking look,” said Adriana. Clothes were flowing, earth-toned, paired with the mellow oranges and yellows seen all throughout Fashion Week.

Betsey Johnson – Skateboarder meets kewpie doll. “The style was so Betsy – fun, vibrant, all the models were having a blast,” said Adriana. Brightly-colored racing suits, sailor motifs, flirty princess skirts that were oh-so-short. Hair was loose and textured, banded sections for extra fullness. Makeup was sugary sweet with mint green colors for the eyes and cotton candy-colored lips.

Custo Barcelona — Very ‘60s study between function and fantasy. Fine textures and mix of patterns and texture and color. Very young, bohemian.

Nanette Lepore – Flirty ruffles, flowing gowns and gorgeous swimwear in the hot shades of Summer 2011 – sultry oranges and orange-pink hues. Hair was pulled back, smooth; makeup was clean and natural-looking.

Makeup Trends – Strong, Accented Eyes

The eyes have it for spring/summer. “Last season makeup focused on a strong cheek and shinier face. Spring/summer 2011 will highlight sheer makeup for the face overall but with strong, accented eyes,” noted Adriana.

Hair Trends
“Strong women – almost the natural warrior – this was the trend for hair, with complex, earthy, almost tribal designs that included messy but elegant knotted twists, a step beyond braiding that was purposeful, dynamic, edgy yet owned,” said Adriana.

Other designers showed longer, flowing hair that was sleek yet effortless, the ease of summer combined with clean lines.

The New Venue
“The move to Lincoln Center for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week was unsettling for many at first, but Lincoln Center embodies all the best in artistic expression, music and performance. Fashion Week is expresses the artistry of beauty, fashion and glamour, combined with live stage performances theatrically set to musical themes. What could fit better? The area is alive with great restaurants and just blocks away from Central Park and the Museums,” said John.

While there the Vaters met Huntington native Chef Brian Loiacono of Bar Boulud (1900 Broadway), who was busy cooking up delectables for the Fashion Week crowd. “It was some of the Best French cuisine we have ever had!” said John.

Fashion week looks can be had now at Spa Adriana. Book your appointment today!
